Where are the Big Fish?

Went to a great networking affair last night for an organization called BLOC (Business Leaders of Charlotte). They always have a great turn out and a good mix of people and they meet in a cool venue also, The Sunset Club. But I'm at a point now that I know about 10 to 20 people and anyone new that I meet is a banker, a financial adviser, an IT guy, a marketing guy (or gal, you know what I mean). Those aren't the kind of businesses that are going to buy a full page ad in my magazines. So, even though I had a great time, my goal is to find the movers and shakers and become their best friend. And start selling some big ads. So, if anyone knows any movers and shakers in Charlotte, make the intro!

It's another beautiful day in the Queen City. I'm off to Starbucks to hear a sales pitch for a credit card company.

Until next time, I remain, Sara Abrams, your faithful publishing magnate, founder of the next publishing empire, with two magazines to-date: The MECK and Cats & Dogs of Charlotte. Articles accepted, ADS REQUESTED, please keep in touch. (Hey, it's time to start thinking about production! I'm missing some live action type stuff! Let's do a talk show! Submit your tapes!)

Count Down

The MECK and Cats & Dogs of Charlotte magazines are both at the printers so that gives me one more draft to check before we go to press. I'm excited but I always get nervous before printing. It's a big responsibility to be the final say on something that goes out into the public. I haven't made a fool of myself yet, but you never know... Thinking good thoughts. The minute the magazines come out I have to hit the ground running and sell as many ads as I can. After the summer edition comes out I'm going to expand with Cats & Dogs to another city. So, if anybody is looking to invest...give me a call.

Winter has returned to the Carolinas. My understanding was that this was an unusually warm winter. I guess I got lucky. I'm not looking forward to the summer and the humidity but I hope I'm smart enough to get out of the city and explore the mountains, the lakes and the ocean. I need to enjoy the freedom that being self employed allows me.

They Lied, Again

They told me, Build It and They Will Come - yet I've had this blog for 2 days and no one's even looked at it! I'm so unloved. I don't even get spam email. It's unbelievable.

Just kidding. I have friends, I have a cat, and I have a beautiful life in the QC in NC (for you unhip people, Queen City in North Carolina). Try to keep up with my hipness, I know it's blinding at times. Sorry, just feeling a little spunky. Just put Cats & Dogs of Charlotte magazine to bed and working on the next edition of The MECK. I have a sales person lined up for Cats & Dogs and a launch party on May 18th. Sky's the limit. And the only reason I'm even blogging is because I'm waiting for the new Sporano's show to start at 9. Goodness, it's good this final season! As a failed screenplay writer from Los Angeles, I am seriously in awe of the creative genius behind the Sopranos.

Somebody post a comment! I'm dying out here in cyber space!

Hey there!

Well, thanks to my web guy, Michael Owens, I now have a "journal". Readers beware. There's no way of knowing what's going to come out of my speedy, stubby, little typing fingers. For example, did you know that Charlotte is such a small city that I've been here 6 1/2 months and when I go to networking functions I know at least 10% of the people? (Make it 12% if they're wearing name tags.)

Now, small is not a bad thing. Well, maybe it is. Any little indiscretion spreads like wild fire. But then again, me, indiscreet? Yes, very indiscreet. I'm trying not to be. I'm trying hard not to gossip. Trying to be business like. Trying to sell ads and keep the personal, personal and the business, business. But sometimes....I slip. I'm tempted to share some of my indiscretions with you, but that will make it even worse if I'm stupid enough to put them in writing!

So, I'm off to a meeting with Parks & Rec about volunteering for Bark in the Park which will take place 4/22.

And also, if you're reading this, SAVE THE DATE! Thursday, May 18, 2006, 6-9 pm. Cats & Dogs of Charlotte Magazine Launch Party at Metro-Paws, 2029 S. Tryon. Bring your dog (must be well behaved, on-leash, socialized and vaccinated)! Door prizes, dancing, photography exhibit. Canine Frisbee demonstration at 7:00 pm. Tons of fun!
